The John A. Logan College women’s golf team competed in the NJCAA National Tournament on May 13-15 in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Lady Vols shot a team score of 1,100 (386-351-363) to finish 12th in the 15-team event. Redlands Community College won the crown with a score of 946.
Amie Koerner, a sophomore from Metropolis, Illinois, led Logan with a 54-hole total of 253 (89-79-85) and tied for 29th place. Freshmen Jacki Jacobs and Carly Ball, both of Metropolis, shot 271 (99-84-88) and 285 (102-94-89), respectively, to finish 51st and 68th overall. Lindsey Hosick, a sophomore from Carmi, Illinois, posted a 291 (96-94-101) to tie for 75th place.
“I think our nerves affected us on the first day of competition, and we didn’t play well,” said Bill Glenn, head coach of the Lady Vols. “But we overcame a slow start and our scores improved significantly in the second round. I thought we were capable of a top-10 finish, but we just had too many mistakes to accomplish that. It was a tough golf course and errors on a few holes cost us, but overall I think it was a good experience for the players and I was pleased with the effort.”
