John A. Logan College will host the 20th annual Miss and Mrs. Volunteer Pageants on Saturday, December 15, at 1:30 p.m. in O'Neil Auditorium. Ladies participating in the Miss Volunteer Pageant will be judged in interview, evening gown, swimsuit, and talent competitions. The Mrs. Volunteer contestants will participate in interview, evening gown, and talent competitions. The lady crowned Miss Volunteer qualifies to run in the Miss Illinois America Pageant, and the winners of Miss and Mrs. Volunteer each receive a $500 scholarship.
Karen Sala, professor of music at Logan, started the pageants and says having two contests allows all women attending the College to participate.
"When I got the idea to start the pageant, the average age of students attending John A. Logan was 28 and many of them were or had been married. We decided to have two pageants so all interested women could compete. The pageant contestants reflect Logan's diverse student body, and we've had wonderful women from both contests represent the College over the years."
The events are open to the public. For more information about the Miss and Mrs. Volunteer Pageants, contact the Office of Student Activities and Cultural Events at 618-985-2828 or 618-457-7676, Ext. 8287.
