Logan Softball Receives National Academic Honors

The John A. Logan College softball team has been named a 2007 Academic Spring Team of the Year by the NJCAA. The Lady Vols compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.13 on a 4.0 scale. This is the third time in the past four years that the team has earned this recognition.

"We have a good group of student-athletes, and I'm happy they received this honor," said Bruce Jilek, head softball coach for the Lady Vols. "It's a credit to how hard they work both on the field and in the classroom."

In addition to the team award, sophomore Gabby Simmons of Marion was designated an NJCAA Distinguished Academic All-American for carrying a minimum GPA of 3.8 and Gina Trapani from Herrin was selected an Academic All-Americans for maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.6. Both ladies were also named to the Great Rivers Athletic Conference All-Academic team, along with their teammates Jerrah Stafford from Vienna, Illinois, and Taylor Whitley of Du Quoin.

Four freshmen on the team earned academic honors from the College. Krystal Kill of Carterville was named to the President's List for achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA. Brooke Babington from Johnston City, Brianne Moeller of Nashville, Illinois, and Brooke Vercellino from Christopher, Illinois, made the Vice-President's List for attaining GPAs between 3.5 and 3.99.
