Officials from SIU, including President Glenn Poshard, joined with officials from John A. Logan College, including President Robert Mees, to cut a ribbon celebrating the opening of SIU's System Service Center.
The Center is located in room C206 at John A. Logan College and is designed to give community college students easy access to information about SIUC and SIUE. "We want to make the transfer process from community college to SIU as painless as possible," said Brad Simpson, the center's director. "This center is designed to do that." A large crowd of officials from SIU and John A. Logan College gathered this morning for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The ceremony also included Illinois Community College Board Chairman Guy Alongi.
"I'm very happy to see this center located at John A. Logan College," Alongi said. "We want to see as many students as possible making the step from Logan to SIU." Mees said the connection between Logan and SIU is strong and getting stronger. "We are proud of our relationship with SIU and happy that the center has opened on campus," Mees said.
Mees and Poshard joined to cut the ribbon with a giant pair of scissors. The two had trouble cutting the ribbon, which was laced with a thin piece of wire. "This is significant of our relationship with Dr. Poshard and SIU," Mees said. "Strong bonds are hard to break."
