The John A. Logan College Foundation recently held its annual one box shoot at the County Line Hunting Club in Macedonia. The event is a unique fundraiser in which teams of four compete in a wing shooting competition, with the catch being each team must share one box of shells. Teams have two hours to score points using a system under which released game birds are harvested. Chukars score 2 points and quail score 5 points. Hunters may utilize a maximum of two dogs on the ground per team. Started over a decade ago the event has been popular with upland game hunters who not only get a chance to hone their skills prior to the start of the November hunting season, but also get a chance to give something back while doing something they love.

Former Executive Director of the John A. Logan College Foundation and current Director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Foundation Greg Legan says that supporting an event like this is not uncommon for Illinois outdoorsmen. "Whether it's supporting conservation efforts, youth education, or to fund scholarships, such as the case with this event, men and women who enjoy hunting and fishing sports are extremely generous," stated Legan.
This year's eight team event was won by the team of Scott Stoltzfus, Bob Stotzfus, Dustin, Stoltzfus, and Dustin Stoltzfus with a score of 49. Coming in second place was the team of Bob Brothers, Mike Lukens, David Anderson, and Randy Pullam with a score 45. While the team of Kyle Hacke, Scott Hacke, Scott Sheidenhelm, and Robert Shaver finished third with 44 points.
Proceeds from the event are used to fund scholarships for John A. Logan College students, and according to current Executive Director Jill Gobert everyone involved helped make the event successful, the weather was nice, and the staff from the College and Foundation as well as Foundation board members who volunteered did a tremendous job.
