Jean Driscoll was the keynote speaker during the Southern Business Journal's One Region One Vision winter meeting at John A. Logan College Friday, Jan. 25.

Driscoll was born with spina bifida, a birth defect that resulted in the improper development of her spine. Despite this fact, she is the only athlete in any division to ever win the Boston Marathon eight times. During her career as an elite wheelchair racer, she won two Olympic silver medals, twelve Paralympic medals and numerous prestigious awards, including the Women's Sports Foundation's Sportswoman of the Year in 1991. In 2000, Driscoll was voted #25 of the Top 100 Female Athletes of the 20th century by Sports Illustrated for Women, a list topped by the Olympic track and field sensation, Jackie Joyner-Kersee.

Driscoll signed copies of her book for a number of people attending the meeting, including Dr. Robert Mees, president of John A. Logan College; Brad McCormick, vice-president for business services and college facilities; and Steve Binder, editor of the Southern Business Journal (pictured here with Driscoll.)
