Men's Golf Team Tees Off August 31st

The John A. Logan College men's golf team tees off the 2007 fall season at the Region 24 Preview Tournament at Franklin County Country Club in West Frankfort on August 31. The Volunteers have five sophomores on this year's eight-man squad, including reigning Region 24 champion Patrick Scheil from Williamsburg, Virginia, and Grant Price of Paducah, Kentucky, who both played on Logan's fourth place national tournament team last spring.

"We're a veteran group and I like our experience," said Tom Ferris, head coach of the Volunteers. "It always helps to have players who know what to expect and have already made the adjustment to college-level golf. I also see a lot of potential in the three freshmen on the team. Every player is capable of shooting under par."

The Vols will compete in seven tournaments during the fall campaign and Ferris says the schedule should be challenging.

"We have a good schedule this fall," he said. "One tournament we're playing in is hosted by Morehead State University, and we'll be competing against four-year schools. The other tournaments will also have strong fields. The tough competition will give me a chance to evaluate the players and help them prepare for the regional and national tournaments next spring."
