The John A. Logan College men's golf team began its spring campaign at the BSC Spring Invitational hosted by Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama on February 24-26. The Volunteers battled cold, windy conditions and finished fifth in the nine-team field. Grant Price, a sophomore from Paducah, Kentucky, led Logan in the 54-hole event and placed 15th overall. Sophomore Patrick Scheil from Williamsburg, Virginia, the reigning Region 24 Champion, took 19th place individually. Freshman William Bremner of Edzell, Scotland, placed 29th individually, and Rob Holland, a sophomore from Mayfield, Kentucky, was one stroke behind him in 30th place. Paducah product David Burzynski rounded out the scoring for Logan and finished 39th. The University of South Carolina Upstate won the tournament.
"We didn't play as well as we're capable of, but this was our first outing of the season, and we went in with no preparation because all the ice and snow has kept us off the golf course," said Tom Ferris, head coach of the Volunteers. "The teams that finished ahead of us were all four-year schools, and it was good for our players to shake off the rust and get back into tournament competition. We have a talented team, and I think we'll play better as the season goes along."
The Vols won five tournaments during the fall season and will compete in six more events this spring as they prepare to defend their Region 24 title on May 9-12.
