National Organization Names 2007 Award Winners

LINCOLN - The National Council of Instructional Administrators (NCIA), headquartered at the University of Nebraska--Lincoln, has selected the recipients of its 2007 Instructional Leadership Awards. Julia Schroeder, the Vice President of Instruction at John A. Logan College, is one of four individuals selected for recognition this year. Nominations for the awards are solicited from community colleges across the country, with the expectation that a recipient has exerted influence at the college level in areas such as student outcomes assessment, curriculum transformation, advancement of diversity, institutional effectiveness, or faculty development. In supporting her application, Julia's nominators pointed to her leadership in transitioning John A. Logan to a learning college, her support of a successful Title III grant to establish a teaching and learning center, her leadership in the "Logan at 50" strategic plan and her efforts to develop innovative modes of course delivery and flexible class scheduling to expand education access for all the constituents of the institution.

NCIA is a professional organization affiliated with the American Association of Community Colleges. The Instructional Leadership Awards were established in 2007 and are given annually to recognize active instructional administrators who exemplify academic leadership by demonstrating creativity and innovation in their work, demonstrating a sustained commitment to instructional issues and challenges, or making a substantial impact on the college organization. Dr. Schroeder will receive her Instructional Leadership Award on April 5, 2008 at the NCIA Academy for Instructional Administrators in Philadelphia, PA.
