On Friday, March 28, John A. Logan College will host a performance by the Great Collaborators, a combination of singers from area community colleges. The show will take place at 7:30 p.m. in O'Neil Auditorium. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door.
Nathan Arnett, a music instructor at Logan, helped organize the event.
"Last year I contacted the choral directors at the local community colleges and asked if they would be interested in working together on the same music and bringing our choirs together to perform," Arnett said. "The music directors at Rend Lake College and Southeastern Illinois College liked the idea because it gives our students the opportunity to sing the kind of music that was written for multiple voices and sounds best when performed by a large choir. This spring we're performing operetta pieces along with some opera pieces, and we have nearly one hundred people singing. I think it's going to be a really entertaining show with a mass choir sound."
Arnett says the concert is also a fundraiser for the colleges' music programs.
"All the proceeds from the ticket sales will go to the choral departments of the colleges involved to help fund their activities," he said. "We're hoping for a big turnout."
