JALC Museum Hosts Baseball in Southern Illinois Exhibit

The John A. Logan College Museum will host the exhibit Baseball in Southern Illinois from January 14 to March 2. The show will include past and present baseball memorabilia from throughout southern Illinois, and items from several collectors will be on display.

Lendell Fullerton of Kell, Illinois, a baseball collector and historian for more than 20 years, has loaned the College part of his collection of the Frontier League. Founded in 1993, it is the most prominent independent league in the U.S. with 12 affiliated teams, including the Southern Illinois Miners.

"When the Miners came to Marion last year, I don't think many people knew what the Frontier League was," Fullerton said. "This exhibit shows some of the history of the league. Some of the memorabilia is from teams that are defunct and no longer in the league. I think this will show people that if they don't support their local teams, they may not be around very long. Community support is vital to the success of these teams."

"I hope the exhibit is a big draw," said Adrienne Barkley Giffin, director of student activities and cultural events at Logan. "A lot of people are interested in sports, and I thought a baseball exhibit would be appealing to people throughout the region."
