CARTERVILLE – The John A. Logan men’s basketball team is ranked 28th nationally in the NJCAA Division I preseason poll.

“It is good to be ranked especially since we return only one player from last year’s team,” said Kyle Smithpeters, Volunteer coach. “Our early ranking is a testament to our program and its past success. We have a lot of work to do, but the early ranking gives us a challenge because there are 27 teams ahead of us.”

NJCAA Region 24 teams fared well in the opening poll.  Vincennes is ranked 4th and Wabash Valley is ranked 24th. “This just shows that we will be playing in one of the toughest regions in the country,” Smithpeters said.

The Volunteers are 5-1 in preseason Jamboree results.  The only loss was to Moberly, ranked 8th nationally.

Logan opens the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 1 with a 5 p.m. home game with the Bethel JV team.
