CARTERVILLE – The Southern Illinois United Way’s “Stuff the Bus” campaign is alive and well at John A. Logan College.

Event coordinator Deana Smith at the college’s Community Health Education Complex said about 20 bags of school supplies and snack items were picked up for distribution the other day in the CHEC lobby and a second pick-up is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 27.

The CHEC facility is the only drop site on the JALC campus. This year marks the fifth year Logan has participated. Deadline for donating to the campaign is Wednesday, Aug. 26.

“There is still time to help out,” Smith said. “I feel this is an important project because I hate to see any children without the basic back-to-school supplies. And I think it’s good to provide some snacks, too, as some children don’t get much to eat at home. The younger ones can’t help the circumstances they are in.”

Smith said those who can afford to should all pitch in to help kids get a good start in the new school year.

“Who knows? Some could be future JALC grads.”
