CARTERVILLE – The John A. Logan College women’s basketball team added a physical presence in the paint this week with the announced signing of Ternaecia Ashley of Brainard High School in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Ashley is a 5-foot-10 post player who averaged eight points and eight rebounds a game as a senior. She was a two-year varsity starter.

“I like that Ternaecia is aggressive on the boards and understands very well how to play defense,” said Vols first-year head coach Amanda Shelby. “She’s not afraid to throw her body around or even take a charge. I also like that she is an unselfish player who will likely be one of our vocal leaders on the team as an incoming freshman.”

Shelby said that while Ashley has the ability to score inside, she will mostly be counted on to rebound and play defense.

Ashley said she can’t wait to get started.

“I really liked my visit to Logan,” she said. “It felt like a four-year school to me. Coach Amanda is very easy to talk to and I am excited about the opportunity to play college basketball.”

Ashley was also a top-notch volleyball player in high school, competing three years on the varsity squad and led the team in blocks at the net. But now, her focus will be on one sport.

“I will probably miss volleyball some, but I think basketball is going to be my best sport,” Ashley said. “Concentrating all my efforts in one area should help me become a better player. I can’t wait to meet my new teammates.”
