INA – The John A. Logan College women’s golf team placed runner-up to Rend Lake College Monday at the Region 24 tournament held at the Rend Lake Golf Course.

The Volunteers improved their Sunday team score of 357 by 14 strokes Monday (343) to finish with a two-day, 36-hole total of 700. The Warriors, meanwhile, shot 21 strokes higher Monday (337) than they did Sunday (316). Their combined score was 653.

Kaskaskia placed third (759) overall. Lincoln College did not have enough players to post a team score. The regional champion automatically qualifies for the national tournament held this year in Mesa, Ariz. (May 11-14).

The top five individuals, not on the first-place team, also qualify for Nationals. Because four of those five top individuals are from Logan, they also qualify as a team.

”I’m very proud of the effort the kids put forth today,” said Vols head coach Bill Glenn. “The conditions were not the best today. It was very windy, yet we still managed to lower our score. We were much more competitive with Rend Lake today than we were on Sunday.”

Top individual performer for Logan was freshman Adrian Brown of Carterville, who posted an 84 to go along with her 83 Sunday (167). She placed fourth overall and earned a medal.

Sophomore Kirsten Faulkner of Metropolis bounced back from a subpar round Sunday of 93 to card an impressive 81 Monday (174 for the tourney). Sophomore Chelsea Capel of Marion and freshman Payton Choate of Campbell Hill each shot a combined score of 182 to qualify.

Freshman Reagan Keepes of Mount Carmel fell just one stroke short of qualifying for Nationals with a combined score of 183.
