PLYMOUTH, IND. – John A. Logan College sophomores Connor Graves and Michael Mencaccy completed their first of four rounds at the National Junior College Athletic Association championships Tuesday at the Swan Lake Golf Course.
The duo is competing as individuals since the Vols’ team failed to qualify for Nationals earlier this month.
Graves turned in a round of 77 (42, 35) and Mencaccy checked in at 82 (44, 38). Graves is tied for 37th and Mencaccy is tied for 84th place.
“Scores were much higher today across the board than I expected,” said Vols head coach Tom Ferris. “There was some wind, which was a factor, but overall, the conditions were pretty good. I think everybody was a little nervous the first few holes. I knew that once Connor and Mike settled down, they played much better on the back nine. Hopefully, that improved play will carry over to the start of Wednesday’s round.”
There are 128 total golfers competing at the men’s national tournament.
