DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - The John A. Logan College women's golf team made some slight improvement over Tuesday's second round with a third-round score of 349 Wednesday at the national finals.

The Volunteers have now totaled 1,049 strokes through 54 holes, firmly entrenched in eighth place behind Daytona State (886); Seminole State of Florida (906); McLennan, Texas (957); Mesa, Ariz. (966); Iowa Western (1,004); Western Texas (1,014); and Tyler, Texas (1,016).

Those schools trailing Logan include; Barton County, Kan. (1,074); Seminole State, Ok.(1,098); Pima, Ariz. (1,135); Des Moines Area, Iowa (1,158); Sandhills, N.C. (1,197); North Idaho (1,206); Bismarck State, N.D. (1,302), and Redlands, Calif. (Did Not Finish).

Pacing the Vols' attack Wednesday was again sophomore Dana Kaufmann of Carterville, who turned in a season-best round of 81 and three-day total of 249 to place her in a tie for 29th place overall.

"Dana has simply had an outstanding tournament so far, and I couldn't be happier for her," said Logan head coach Bill Glenn. "She has consistently struck the ball well and managed the course in impressive fashion. It's nice to see her save her best golf for the national tournament."

Sophomore teammate Brittanie Garrison of Carmi followed with an 83 and a combined score of 250, good for a 31st-place tie. Sophomore Abby Miller of Anna-Jonesboro was next with a round of 92. Her 268 total places her in a tie for 45th place. Sophomore Mollie Borowiak of Nashville improved by a stroke to 93. She stands at 282 overall and in a tie for 63rd place. Freshman Kirsten Faulkner of Massac County turned in a round of 97 and has a three-day total of 292, good for a 75th-place tie.

"We knocked five strokes off our score from Tuesday, which is nice, but I would like to see us shoot one round in the 330s," Glenn said. "I know we are capable. We'll see what happens Thursday in this fourth and final round."

Rend Lake College was led by Madison Burgett Wednesday with a third-round total of 85. Her total score is 259, good for a 40th-place tie. Ashley Sexton is in 43rd place at 264 following a third-round score of 96 and Katie Garver is in 47th place at 269 after carding a 90 Wednesday,
