OLNEY - John A. Logan College freshman outfielder Tiffany Gaimari blasted her first collegiate homer and drove in five runs to lead the Volunteers to a doubleheader sweep at Olney Monday, 19-4 and 3-2.

"I'm pretty excited about the home run," Gaimari said. "Not only is it my first collegiate homer, but it's the first time I've ever hit one over the fence. I was looking for an inside pitch and that's what I got. I couldn't believe it when the ball went out."

The Vols jumped the host Blue Knights for two runs in the first and four more in the second before putting the game out of reach with five additional runs in the third for an 11-0 lead.

Taylor Price had two hits and scored four runs. Heather Johnson had a hit and drove in three. Jessica Hirsch had a hit and scored three runs.

Anna Mansfield collected three hits and drove in two with a double.

Kelsey Robinson roped three hits and drove in three. Sara Kroeger rapped out two hits and drove in three. Brook Robbins accounted for two hits.

Winning pitcher was Jolyn Lake, who improves to 12-5.

In Game 2, the Vols rallied from a 1-0 deficit to score three runs in the third inning for a 3-1 lead. The game was called after five innings due to wet field conditions.

Kroeger was winning pitcher. The sophomore also had two hits to lead the offense.

Amanda Evinger, Gaimari, Katja Distel, Johnson and Robbins added one hit apiece.

"We hit the ball extremely well today," said Logan head coach Bruce Jilek. "You know you're hitting well as a team when you go through a team's entire pitching staff in one game."

The Vols close out the regular season 23-18 and will host Olney at 2 and 4 p.m. Friday in opening-round action of the Region 24 tournament.
