MARION – Culver Plant’s walkoff double allowed the John A. Logan College baseball team to post a 4-3 comeback win over Shawnee in Game 2 of a doubleheader Wednesday at Rent One Park in Marion. The Volunteers won the opener in more convincing fashion, 6-2.
With the sweep, Logan improves to 18-14 overall.

Earning victories for Logan on the mound were Michael Yacko in relief of John Schram in Game 1 and Tyler McGowan in relief of Aaron Gabriel in Game 2. Yacko went six innings, allowing only one earned run with three strikeouts and no walks. He scattered six hits. Schram tossed three shutout innings.

Offensively, the Vols were paced by Tanner Scott and Joba Ferrell with two hits apiece. Scott also drove in three.

McGowan tossed a scoreless seventh, which put him in position to get the win. Gabriel gave up three runs in six innings, striking out two.

“I thought all four of our pitchers were solid today,” said JALC head coach Jerry Halstead. “They threw strikes and made Shawnee earn their way on base. Offensively, we put together some solid at bats, especially in the seventh inning of Game 2.”

Logan hosts a single game with Wabash Valley at 3 p.m. today.
