ROBINSON - The John A. Logan College softball team picked up a pair of wins Sunday, defeating host Lincoln Trail, 13-3 and 8-0.

With the sweep, the Vols improve to 10-9 overall.

In the opener, sophomore Sara Kroeger earned the victory. She went five innings, allowed three runs on eight hits, struck out one and walked two.

Logan tallied two runs in the first, nine in the third and two in the fifth.

In the third inning, Kroeger led off the frame with a walk. She advanced to second on a passed ball. Heather Johnson singled her home. Brook Robbins followed with an RBI triple. Jessica Hirsch then doubled to drive in Robbins. Kaylyn Winders reached on an error.

Anna Mansfield then drove in both with a single. Kelsey Robinson bunted Mansfield to second. Taylor Price reached on an error. Tiffany Gaimari also reached on an error, scoring Mansfield. Kroeger singled home Price. Johnson then doubled in Gaimari.

Kroeger, Johnson and Robbins all finished with three hits. Mansfield collected two safeties. Hirsch and Gaimari had one each.

In the nightcap, freshman pitcher Jolyn Lake continued her mastery inside the circle, needing only 43 pitches in six innings to earn the win. She allowed only three hits, struck out three and walked one.

The Vols plated one run in the first, three in the second, three in the fifth and one in the sixth. Notching a multiple-hit game was Gaimari with two hits and four runs batted in. Adding one hit each were: Price, Johnson, Amanda Evinger, and Hirsch.

"The pitching was solid today, especially Lake," said Logan head coach Bruce Jilek. "To only throw 43 pitches in six innings is impressive. We also hit the ball well and played solid defense. We still need to improve on working ahead in the count when pitching. Today, we did a much better job of that."

The Vols host a doubleheader with Southeastern Illinois at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
