Museum Educational Programs
Outdoor Art & Heritage Show
The Outdoor Art & Heritage Show is part of the College’s Hunting and Fishing Days event held on the fourth weekend of September every year. The Show takes place in the College gymnasium. The purpose of the Show is to promote artistic and cultural activities that relate to outdoor recreation. Artists, authors, collectors, bookstores, museums, and others set up displays and provide activities for visitors.
Youth Wildlife Art Contest
Another part of the College’s Hunting and Fishing Days event is the Youth Wildlife Art Contest. Students in 5th, 6th, and 7th grades in southern Illinois have the opportunity to enter wildlife artwork into the contest. A specific animal is assigned to each grade and the animals change every year. Judges select ten finalists for each grade, and then select the top winner for each grade. The thirty finalist pieces are exhibited in the Museum’s conference center galleries during Hunting and Fishing Days. The top winners receive prizes at a recognition event.
