Goals

The Fundamental Core Values of John A. Logan College and Their Definitions

John A. Logan College is committed to the Leadership and Core Values Initiative introduced to the community colleges of Illinois in 1997. The primary purpose of the initiative has been to work with community colleges in exploring questions about values, ethical practices, and the leadership traits that support these considerations in the workplace. The first Illinois Leadership Institute was held in 1998 and is an ongoing event. The National Community College Institute on Leadership and Core Values was conducted in Chicago in 2002.

The selection of the core values as they relate to John A. Logan College was a process that evolved over a period of years beginning in 1997. The core values and definitions were approved by the John A. Logan College Board of Trustees and have been implemented campuswide in a variety of ways, most visibly through core values displays. College personnel representing the five core values are shown illustrating the value in question, e.g., nursing personnel are shown with a student "patient" to illustrate the core value of "compassion." Core Values were approved by the Board of Trustees on October 24, 2000, as part of Board Policy 3110.
