Instructors may put items on reserve for their classes. Circulation of reserve material is determined by the instructor and will be either, two-hour library use only, overnight, or three days. The Library does not purchase textbooks, however, if your Instructor provides us with one it will be located in the reserve section. You MUST have a Library card to check-out reserve material – even if you are just using it to make copies. Fines for reserve material are: 2–hour library use only – $1 an hour; Overnight, 3–day, and 7–day – $5 a day.

Faculty Services

Library Orientations & Instruction – Reference Librarians are available for orientations and/or instruction throughout the semester. We can tailor the presentation to a particular subject area (English, History, Nursing, etc.) or provide information on an Information Literacy topic (search strategies, evaluation of Internet, etc.) or do any combination that works best for you. Depending on the instruction or orientation you need for your class, it may take a full 50 minute period or possibly just ten to twenty minutes. Please contact one of the librarians to schedule a session. Judy Vineyard at ext. 8404; Adam Rubin at ext. 8279; Rebecca Bostian at ext. 8338; or e-mail us at library@jalc.edu. The more notice you can give us the better. We will do our best to accommodate last minute requests but cannot guarantee them.

Individual sessions to learn more about particular resources can also be scheduled.

Resource Guides – We will help you prepare webpages or handouts for your subject areas – please give us at least two weeks notice.

Reserve Items – You may place items on reserve for your class by bringing them to the library. We do request at least 24 hours notice. You must decide how long Items placed on reserve will circulate. You will choose between “2-hour library use only”, “overnight”, “3-day”, or “7-day” circulation period.

Students MUST have a library card to access the reserve items (even the “2-hour library use only”). Fines for the “2-hour library use only” are $1 per hour, fines for “overnight”, “3-day”, and “7-day” are $5 a day.

The Library does not purchase textbooks for reserve. If you would like your textbook on reserve for your students you will need to provide us with one. You may want to check with us first to make sure someone from your department has not already placed one on reserve.
