International Education Programs

John A. Logan College offers a wide range of international education opportunities for students and the community. Lectures, exhibits, and performances frequently have an international flavor, and roundtable discussions on topics of international interest are also held several times each semester.

Short-term travel/study opportunities (usually one to three weeks in length) are also available for academic credit.  Examples of such programs include the study of tropical ecology on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago, the country of Costa Rica, and European travel/study tours. These travel/study tours are also open to community members.

John A. Logan College actively explores global opportunities. Faculty and staff members participate regularly in exchanges with counterparts in other countries and are involved in both professional and personal travel around the globe. The College has established relationships with several colleges in China and is pursuing contacts in other parts of the world.

Study Abroad Programs

John A. Logan College encourages students to explore the benefits of living and studying in a foreign culture. As a member of the Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs (ICISP), the College offers students a variety of study abroad opportunities. Any John A. Logan College student who has completed fifteen hours of college-level work with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.75 is eligible to participate in these programs. All programs provide John A. Logan College credit with a range of courses that should fit into most baccalaureate transfer programs.

Semester Abroad Programs

A semester in CANTERBURY, ENGLAND – a charming, historic city conveniently located for field trips to London and the continent.  Students from Illinois will participate in classes and activities along with British students at Christ Church University College and live in British homes.  Your courses will be taught by British faculty who are sensitive to the needs and backgrounds of American students.

A semester in SALZBURG, AUSTRIA – based at Salzburg College in the picturesque city where the film AThe Sound of Music@ was made.  The college offers a full range of liberal arts courses.  You need not speak German to be eligible as courses are taught in English by Austrian faculty, but you will have the opportunity to study German and live with an Austrian family.

A five-week summer Spanish program in SAN JOSE , COSTA RICA – learn or improve your Spanish and immerse yourself in the life of this beautiful Central American country.  Students live with families and study to receive credit in Spanish and Latin American culture.  Deadline for next summer's program is February 1, 2007.

A four-week summer program in DIJON, FRANCE – learn or improve your French is this lively, progressive, university city.  Illinois students will study at the University of Burgundy ’s International Center for French Studies and live in single rooms in the International Student Residence Hall on campus.

A mini-exchange program in the NETHERLANDS – host a Dutch student in your home for approximately two weeks and then return the visit.  This is a cost effective opportunity to learn about Dutch culture and careers.

A four-week summer program in SYNEY, AUSTRALIA – travel “down under” to learn about the history and culture of Australia.

Other Sudy Abroad Opportunities

TRINIDAD and TOBAGO and Tropical Ecology in COSTA RICA
Students may also participate in short-term travel/study courses such as Tropical Ecology in Trinidad and Tobago (May 30 2007 through June 6) or Tropical Ecology in Costa Rica (January 2008) or interdisciplinary travel/study courses in Europe. These courses may vary from semester to semester and are listed in the semester schedules and advertised throughout the campus.

Study in DIJON, FRANCE (summer semester only)
Located at the crossroads of Europe, Dijon is a lively, progressive, university city of approximately 230,000 residents. Capitol of gastronomy and gateway to the prestigious vineyards of Burgundy, Dijon is exceptionally rich in history and art. Illinois students will study at the University of Burgundy's International Center for French Studies and live in single rooms in the International Student Residence Hall on campus. Students can earn four credits in language and two credits in an independent study project. At least one Illinois faculty member will be present throught the four-week session, usually held during the month of July. This program is sponsored by Parkland College.

Logan College requires international students to have a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 520 or higher on file before they can be admitted, and students must meet all certificate or degree program admissions requirements. For complete information concerning the TOEFL exam, applicants may write to the following:
