David Cochran’s Biography

David Cochran received his Ph.D. in American history from the University of Missouri and has taught at John A. Logan College since 2001. His book America Noir: Underground Writers and Filmmakers of the Postwar Era (Smithsonian Press, 2000) was nominated for the Bancroft Award as the year’s best book in American history. His shorter writings have appeared in such journals as The Progressive, Film and History, The Historian, Midwest Quarterly, Clues, North Dakota Quarterly, Peace and Change, Grassroots Editor, The Dictionary of Missouri Biography, The Encyclopedia of the American Left and The St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Cochran lives in Herrin with his wife, Angela Calcaterra, and four cats. He spends his spare time sipping wine and listening to Mose Allison.
