Rupa Chandrashekar’s Biography

Dr. Rupa Chandrashekar completed her Ph.D. degree in Rehabilitation in 2005 at Southern Illinois University after her M.S degree in Educational Psychology. As a part of her M.S. research and fieldwork, she counseled people with traumatic brain injury, which formed her interest in working with traumatic brain injury. As a part of her M.S. thesis, Rupa examined the grieving process of people with traumatic brain injury. This interest continued for Rupa while pursuing her Ph.D. in Rehabilitation. As a part of her Ph.D. research, Rupa developed a counseling group for people with traumatic brain injury, which was implemented in various agencies in Southern Illinois and Missouri to examine awareness of deficits and quality of life. While a doctoral student, Rupa also had the opportunity to teach several classes, where she discovered her passion to teach. So, after completing her Ph.D., Rupa started teaching at John A. Logan College to continue what she loves best: teaching. Along side, Rupa continues traumatic brain injury research at Southern Illinois University.
