Brian Stanfield’s Biography

Brian Stanfield’s interests range across several disciplines in the Humanities. He earned his B.A. from Northwest Missouri State University in 1994 after double majoring in History and Philosophy, specializing in Continental European thought and culture. He returned to NWMSU to study American intellectual history, receiving his M.A. in 1998 after studying American Colonial history and religious thought. Brian is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Southern Illinois University and has specialized in Classical American philosophy, including pragmatism and process philosophy. He is finishing his dissertation on Ralph Waldo Emerson for the spring of 2009. An avid student of Asian culture as well as Western civilizations, Brian likes to utilize traditional texts as well as music and film to enhance his teaching in the humanities.
