Edgar Montaño’s Biography

Edgar Montaño

Mr. Montaño was born in Tumaco, a small town located in the south-western part of Colombia. He came to the United States for the second time in August of 1990. In September of 1994, he became a citizen of this country that he considers his own.

He has been teaching Modern Languages in Colombia, his birth country, and the United States for almost thirty years. He got his Bachelor's degree in "Lenguas Modernas" from Universidad Pedagògica y Tecnològica de Colombia, in Tunja, Colombia. He obtained a Master's degree in Linguistics, with concentration in TESOL, (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Boston University. He also has a Master's degree in Foreign Languages and Literature from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He has been teaching Spanish and occasionally, Latin American Civilization at John A. Logan College since 1991-1993, term faculty, and full time since August, 1993. Mr. Montaño is a member of some academic associations such as: TESOL, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages; ICTFL, Illinois Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages; and AATSP, American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Mr. Montaño is currently the chair of the Humanities Department.
