A New England native of Vermont, Massachusetts and Maine, Hilary moved to Chicago IL where she attended Lake Forest College, majoring in Psychology and Art.. Her career interests have been in synthesizing studies in art and theater. She studied ceramics with Eric Jensen at Lill St Studios and the Evanston Art Center, painting at the Provincetown Center for the Arts, and pursued a career in theater performance with the Center Theater Ensemble in Chicago- now the Artistic Home. After receiving an M.F.A. from Southern Illinois University in 1999, she taught art in Edwardsville and Alton IL with Creative Express, and then returned to teach part-time in the theater department at Southern Illinois University, and to direct short plays in the Journeys Playwright’s workshop, and Robert Streit Jr's work for The Illinois Outback Theater Company. In 2004, she opened her own painting studio at The Douglass Art Place in Murphysboro, and shows her work in North Carolina, New Mexico and Harmony, Indiana as well as Carbondale. She has taught at JALC for two years now, as well as at Southern Illinois University.
