Fire Science Services
This program was designed to provide college credit for firefighter training for both paid and volunteer firefighters. Our program provides the framework for firefighters to earn Certificates for the successful completion of three Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office training levels (Firefighter II, Firefighter III, and Fire officer I) and an A.A.S. degree. A.A.S. graduates will be eligible to Capstone into the Bachelor of Art (B.A.) Fire Service Management Program at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (currently an off-campus program).
The program will allow firefighters to gain employment or provide advancement opportunities for firefighters currently employed at municipal, state, and federal fire organizations. Employment opportunities are available within fire departments, U.S. Forest Service, alarm companies, and fire suppression companies.
***NOTE***This program is for students who are already functioning with a fire department and wish to participate in the certification program of the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal. Students must be employed by an Illinois fire department (full-time, part-time or volunteer) to be eligible for certification by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal and to enroll in certain courses offered in this program.
