The Volunteer
“Can I do a story about my boyfriend’s band?”
“Do we have anything for the big hole on Page 4?”
“Will someone go take pictures at play rehearsal?”
The answer to all of these questions is probably, “Sure.”
The staff of The Volunteer, the JALC student newspaper, come from all different majors and backgrounds. The goal for each issue is to produce a newspaper that is timely, interesting, and informative for the students, staff, and surrounding communities. To this end, students assign, write and edit stories, practice digital photography, and lay out the 8 – to – 12 page paper using Adobe software.
Students can earn credit for their staff work through JRN 210, Newspaper Production Practicum. Student editors may also qualify for tuition waivers.
