Harris Mosley's Biography

Harris Mosley

The big city of Chicago, Illinois, is the birthplace and home of Associate Professor Harris Grant Mosley. There is where his passion for learning and his love for language began. He was graduated from Loyola University of Chicago with a B.A. in English and later with an M.A. in Literature. In keeping with his love of films, he also managed to earn an advanced degree in filmmaking from Columbia College of Chicago.

Immediately after graduating, Mr. Mosley joined the internationally famous youth group "Up with People!" - an organization designed to encourage young people to meet the challenges and responsibilities of their world with enthusiasm and a dynamic, positive attitude.

After receiving his B.A., Mr. Mosley served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was trained by the Defense Language Institute as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher.

After holding a few mundane jobs in the "real" world, Mr. Mosley yielded to his love of learning and eventually chose college teaching as his life's career. His twenty plus years of teaching experience include the high school, community college, and university levels. He belongs to the Modern Language Association and to the National Council of Teachers of English. As a result of student recommendations, his name appears twice in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. He also participates in local community programs and in church activities.

Preferring to call his courses "adventures," Mr. Mosley has a simple philosophy of teaching: be enthusiastic, be pleasant, and encourage all students to be responsible and to give their very best!

His favorite quote is by American author and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Nothing great was ever accomplished without enthusiasm."
