Susan Lewis’ Biography
A native of southern Illinois, Susan received a B.A. degree in English from Bradley University, an M.F.A. degree in creative writing from Warren Wilson College, and a M.A. degree in English from Southern Illinois University.
Her career as an English instructor began at Wesleyan College in North Carolina where she taught various courses and conducted workshops for undergraduates preparing to take the writing proficiency exam that all students were required to pass in order to graduate. Teaching at colleges in North Carolina, Arizona, Tennessee, and Illinois as well as teaching courses in everything from composition and developmental reading to literature and creative writing have given her a broad background of experience.
For a few years, her career as an educator was interrupted when she was an editor and feature writer for an area newspaper. While there, some of her in-depth feature stories were picked up by the Associated Press Wire Service.
She returned to the field of education when she began teaching at John A. Logan College in 2005. She teaches composition and literature courses and sometimes tutors students in The Write Place.
