Joanna Christopher's Biography

Joanna Christopher

Joanna began teaching at John A. Logan in 1991. She previously taught at SIU's Center for Basic Skills and at Carbondale Community High School. She has taught composition, literature, and developmental reading. She also developed an online section of Literature for Children. She chaired the high school and college creative writing contests for five years. Last year, Joanna participated in a faculty exchange to Finland, which only spurred her interest in travel/study.

Joanna's family includes: her husband of thirty years, Michael; their daughter, Sara, working on her PhD in economics at Stanford; their son, John, an architect in Chicago; their three-year-old granddaughter, Thierra, who brings her Nan and BaBa great joy; three cats, Maddie, Toot, and Skitty; and one elderly Irish setter named Dan. Joanna's current favorite novelists include Kate Walbert, Jim Crace, Barbara Kingsolver, Tom Robbins, and Michael Cunningham. She remains obsessed with books and music.
