I came to southern Illinois in 1975 to attend SIU and, like so many others, fell in love with the natural beauty of the area. After completing Bachelors' degrees in English and History, I moved to Austin, Texas and earned a Master's in English from the University of Texas. Returning to southern Illinois, I completed coursework in Speech Communication and began teaching at John A. Logan College in 1990.
Currently, I teach all aspects of communication. I am primarily a writing teacher, or more accurately, a writing coach. English Composition and Journalism courses offer opportunities to help guide students as they increase their writing proficiency. Literature courses, including Mythology, help students understand themselves and their world in new ways, which they express through journal writing, small group activities, and a variety of written and oral projects.
As the Advisor for The Volunteer, the bi-weekly student newspaper, I get a chance to assist students in the challenge of putting out a timely, interesting publication.
I'm blessed with a happy, healthy family, a rewarding job, and great colleagues and friends. What else is there?
