The Aerobic & Weight Training Center includes weight machines, free weights, dumbbells, treadmills, stair climbers, bicycles, rowing machines and elliptical gliders. This area also features an aerobic super circuit and 5 satellite television systems.

The Physical Fitness courses PED 106-108 and HTH 115-118 are offered for those who would like both classroom and application of weight and cardiovascular training. Topics include achievement of personal goals of weight control through diet and exercise, health and fitness, disease prevention, and daily function improvement.

These courses are designed to provide an opportunity for the student to participate in a program of exercise and fitness which will fit into the normal, busy schedule of college life. The flexible time and central location of the facility make it an ideal course for the total college district population. One to four hours of college transfer credit in physical education is given for each course that is successfully completed. Each course may be repeated three times for credit.

Registration

The student enrolls in the class prior to each semester at the same time they enroll in all other classes. For many persons, this is the only class in which they enroll at John A. Logan College.

Requirements

Requirements for using the facility are as follows: Dress properly in GYM clothes such as shorts, sweat pants, T-shirt, sweatshirt, soft sole indoor athletic shoes. Tank tops, muscle shirts and shirts with buttons are not permitted nor are jeans shorts and other apparel which may be harmful to the equipment. Students must bring and keep a towel with them during their workout sessions.

All new students must attend an Orientation session which is given during the first week of each semester. Orientation provides the student with information relative to course requirements, facility use requirements, and proper, safe use of the various pieces of equipment. Students enrolled during the current semester may, after participating in the Orientation session, use the facility as often as they like.

The Aerobic Center is open during the holidays on a modified schedule. Please check the Aerobic Center Bulletin Board for each month’s schedule.

Food and Drinks are not allowed in the Aerobic Center.

Attendance

Upon entering the center, the student logs in on the attendance sheet at the reception desk. After each workout, the student returns to the log-in sheet and records their time out. Illegible, incomplete, or improperly filled out data will not be entered into the computer.

Lockers

Lockers and shower facilities are available at the College for use by Aerobic Center Students. Select an available locker in the physical education locker room and put your lock on it for the duration of the workout. You may not leave a lock on a locker past 8:30 p.m. Locks left on after 8:30 p.m. will be removed. John A. Logan College will not be responsible for lost or stolen articles.

Violation of Community Health Education Complex or College policies may result in loss of facility privileges.
