Department of Homeland Security - E-Verify
Free Session

I am pleased to announce that the Department of Homeland Security will present a free informational session on the E-Verify system, Tuesday, September 14th from 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the College of DuPage Open Campus Center.

Does E-Verify pertain to you?

The Federal Contractor Rule and E-Verify

The FAR final rule, known as the E-Verify federal contractor rule, directs federal agencies to require many federal contractors to use E-Verify to electronically verify the employment eligibility of certain employees. The final rule became effective September 8, 2009 and requires certain federal contractors, through language inserted into their contract, to begin using E Verify to validate their new and existing employees.

E-Verify is a free internet-based system, partnership between Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration, that gives employers the ability to confirm the legal working status of a new hire in seconds.

E-Verify works by allowing employers to electronically compare employee information taken from the Form I-9 (the paper-based employee eligibility form used for all new hires)

  • 425 million records in the Social Security Administration database
  • 60 million records in the Department of Homeland Security database
  • 70,000 employers using E-Verify
  • 1,000- new employers joining weekly
