Course content will include medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions, and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding and dose conversions. Dispensing prescriptions, inventory control, billing and reimbursement will also be discussed. Completion requirements: Upon successful completion of the program students will receive a John A. Logan College Certificate of Completion and will be eligible to take the National Pharmacy Technician Exam. To receive the Certificate students must have a good attendance record, complete all assignments, and successfully pass quizzes and exams. Although this is a CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT program, letter grades will be assigned. Admission requirements: Students must possess a high school diploma or GED. Length of program: 12 weeks.
