Logan Women’s Basketball Signs Allison Powell for 2008-09

Allison Powell signs to play with the Logan women’s basketball team.

The John A. Logan College women’s basketball program has signed Allison Powell of Massac County High School in Metropolis for the 2008-2009 season. A 6-foot-1 center, Powell was a two-year starter for Coach James Forthman’s Lady Patriots. An all-conference performer as a senior, she averaged 8.5 points and nearly five rebounds per game, helping her team achieve a record of 26-3, win regional and sectional titles, and reach the Elite Eight in the IHSA state tournament.

Powell says she is excited about continuing her athletic career at Logan.

“I like Coach Hawkins a lot, and I enjoyed my visit to Logan,” Powell said. I got to meet the other players and they were really nice. Logan is also close to my home so I can go home when I want to, and my family and friends can come to my games.”

Marty Hawkins, head women’s basketball coach at Logan, says Powell will be a nice addition to next year’s squad.

“Allison is very athletic and runs the floor well,” Hawkins said. “She’s a really active and aggressive post player who should give us a strong presence in the middle.”
