Logan Women's Basketball Adds Katelyn McMahan to 2008-09 Roster

Katelyn McMahan (seated center), surrounded by her parents and coaches, signs a scholarship to play basketball at John A. Logan College.

The John A. Logan College women's basketball team has signed Katelyn McMahan of Cobden, Illinois, for the 2008-2009 season. A 5-foot-9 guard/forward, McMahan averaged 18.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and three steals per game for the Appleknockers this year, helping lead the team to a record of 20-7. She was chosen MVP of the SEC Tournament and was a first team all-conference selection, receiving the most votes for that honor. She was also named to the all-tournament teams at the Herrin Holiday Tournament and the Meridian Tournament.

McMahan looked at other schools but says she liked the atmosphere at Logan.

"My assistant coach, Elissa Hopkins, played softball at Logan, and she encouraged me to check it out," McMahan said. "I visited the college and I liked it a lot. It has a good reputation academically, and I got a really positive feeling from the coaches and other people I met there."

"Katelyn is a competitive, versatile player who works really hard," said Marty Hawkins, head coach of the Lady Vols. "Coach Brian Clark has done a great job with the women's basketball program in Cobden, and Katelyn knows what it takes to win. She has the ability to run the break and score both inside and out. She's one of the best players in southern Illinois and we're excited to have her joining our team."
