Assistant Coach Bruce Jilek has a wealth of coaching experience. Before taking over Logan's softball program as head coach in the spring of 2003, he spent 24 years as head softball coach at Herrin High School, where he compiled an impressive record of 539 wins against only 102 losses, winning 18 conference championships and 19 region titles.

Bruce’s teams made eight appearances in the Illinois High School Association state tournament, finishing second four times (1980, 1981, 1993, and 1998). He is a member of the IHSA Hall of Fame and Herrin High School Hall of Fame. His record at Logan was 376-200.

A highly regarded pitching coach, Bruce has worked with several All-Americans and one of his proteges was invited to try out for the U.S. Olympic team. In addition to softball, Bruce coached football and basketball while at Herrin.

A Benton native, Bruce Jilek is a graduate of Benton High School (Class of ’54) and has a master’s degree in health education from Southern Illinois University.

He and his wife, Angie, have a daughter, Zoee.
