Patrick Scheil Leads Logan to Rend Lake Invitational Title

John A. Logan College sophomore Patrick Scheil, the top ranked community college golfer in the nation, fired a 5-under par 139 (68-71) to win medalist honors and lead the Volunteers to victory at the 11-team Rend Lake Invitational in Ina, Illinois, on April 20-21. Logan, which is currently ranked No. 2 nationally by the NJCAA, shot a 36-hole team score of 590 (295-295) to defeat tenth-ranked Parkland College by eight strokes.

Sophomore Rob Holland shot a 146 (74-72) for the Volunteers to finish second individually, and freshman William Bremner placed fifth with a 148 (73-75). Grant Price carded a 150 (74-76) for Logan, and David Burzynski rounded out the scoring with a 153 (79-74).

“This was a good tournament on a good golf course, and I’m pleased to get the win,” said Tom Ferris, head coach of the Volunteers. We lost one of our top golfers after the fall semester, and the other players have worked hard this spring to improve their games and fill the void he left.

The Volunteers will attempt to defend their Region 24 Tournament title and earn an eighth consecutive trip to nationals on May 11-12 in Alton, Illinois.
