John A. Logan College sophomore Lucas Steijn, from Muiderberg, Netherlands, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball next year at Idaho State University. A 6-foot-10 post player and all-conference selection, he averaged 10.4 points and a team-high 5.4 rebounds per game, helping the Volunteers go 27-5 and win the Great Rivers Athletic Conference championship.
"Lucas is one of the best big men in junior college this year, coming off a team that had a great season," said Joe O'Brien, head men's basketball coach at Idaho State. "He can score in a variety of ways. He has the size to score in the low post and can also step out and hit from 15 feet. He'll be a very good offensive player for us."
Steijn likes living in the U.S. and is excited about going to Idaho State.
"I really enjoyed my time at Logan, both on and off the court," Steijn said. "I'm happy Idaho State has offered me a chance to continue my collegiate basketball career. It's a great opportunity, and I'm looking forward to playing there."
