Outdoor Art and Heritage Show

The Outdoor Art & Heritage Show is held inside the College’s Gymnasium, Skylight Lounge, and front lobby during Southern Illinois Hunting and Fishing Days. Its purpose is to promote participation in outdoor recreation through artistic, cultural, natural history, entertainment, and other types of activities. Exhibitors include artists, taxidermists, museums, collectors, authors, musicians, not-for-profits, makers of specialty foods, and others who sell products or services or provide programs related to the outdoors. AutumnFest Arts and Crafts Show

AutumnFest is an annual juried event for over 100 exhibitors of handcrafted arts, crafts and specialty foods. It is held on the second full weekend of each November. Annual attendance is approximately 7,000. The event is organized by the Office of Student Activities & Cultural Events at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Illinois. Miss and Mrs. Volunteer of John A. Logan College Scholarship Pageant

Purdy School One-Room Schoolhouse

Every spring and fall area school children are invited to attend the Purdy School to experience history firsthand. The day-long experience features math, reading, and writing lessons presented by volunteer teachers and a tour of the Historical Village. Students use quill pens, read on the recitation bench, write on slates, and play period games at recess. Southern Illinois Hunting and Fishing Days

This event was created to celebrate our heritage of hunting and fishing in Illinois. It is an educational, family event, dedicated to teaching ethics, safety, and conservation in order to enhance the outdoor experience. It is always the fourth full weekend of September. Teen Health Conference

The Southern Illinois Women’s Teen Conference at John A. Logan College is for young women in grades 7-12. It is planned to provide young women a day to learn about the issues that affect their lives and have fun in the process. The conference offers breakout sessions on a variety of topics, such as skin care, self-defense, college admission, and hair up-dos. Exhibitors of services and products for young women are in attendance. Lunch is served while the participants enjoy entertainment. This event takes place in February. Youth Wildlife Art Contest

Entry Form for the Youth Wildlife Art Contest

Another part of the College’s Hunting and Fishing Days event is the Youth Wildlife Art Contest. Students in 5th, 6th, and 7th grades in southern Illinois have the opportunity to enter wildlife artwork into the contest. A specific animal is assigned to each grade and the animals change every year. Judges select ten finalists for each grade, and then select the top winner for each grade. The thirty finalist pieces are exhibited in the Museum’s conference center galleries during Hunting and Fishing Days. The top winners receive prizes at a recognition event.
