John A. Logan Construction Management Club Gets Third Place in National Competition.

The John A. Logan construction management club recently received third-place in the Associated General contractors of America competition. The AGC has 170 student chapters nationwide.

The competition is evaluated by the number of hours of community service and the types of services being provided. Iowa State University placed first for the second year in a row, followed by Boise State University and John A. Logan College placing third.

The construction management club had 35 registered members in the 2006/2007 school year that performed approximately 1500 hrs of community service. These activities included helping build three Habitat for Humanity houses in Marion, Murphysboro, and Carbondale. A playhouse for Williamson County CASA, a maintenance building for the Desoto Park District, children's games for John A. Logan's dental program, and assisting with parking at Southern Illinois hunting and fishing days.

Carrie Harper with the AGC in Arlington, Virginia said the judges were very impressed with the John A. Logan club amount of services when comparing it against universities that have over 100 members.

Each year the construction management club and construction management program perform over 3000 hours of community service in Southern Illinois. The construction management club at John A. Logan is sponsored by the Southern Illinois Builders Association in O Fallon Illinois, and the home builders Association of Illinois in Springfield, Illinois. The construction management club received a $400 award for their accomplishments.
