John S. Washburn
As a nationally recognized speaker and consultant, Dr. Washburn has been actively involved in employment and training for almost three decades. He is an experienced consultant, administrator/manage, and author of training programs used throughout the United States, Jamaica, Nepal, and other countries.
He has trained and facilitated groups representing more than 15,000 public and private sector employees, both nationally and internationally, in: motivation, change, priority setting, focus group facilitation, and conflict management. John has served as a consultant for schools, hospitals, small and large manufacturers and businesses, and a variety of organizations in the public sector. His most recent work involves conducting an independent assessment of the Indiana Strategic Skills Initiative for the Department of Workforce Development.
Dr. Washburn is formerly a Professor in the Department of Workforce Education and Development at Southern Illinois University. He was also the Manager of Research for the Department of Adult, Vocational and Technical Education of the Illinois State Board of Education. He has served as a Board of Trustee member for State Community College in East St. Louis, Illinois; President of the University Council for Vocational Education; Board member of the regional administrative entity for workforce development in Southern Illinois; and is currently the principal owner of a consulting firm with international and national clients.
Dr. Washburn earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Technical and Industrial Education from Southern Illinois University and his doctorate from the University of Illinois. He has received numerous national, regional and local awards for his contributions to the field of employment and training. In 1996, John was the recipient of the prestigious University Council for Vocational Education Visiting Scholar Award for his scholarly work in the employment and training community.
